Doctoral Internship Training Program

Internship is a time to develop one’s professional skills and identity as a therapist. The intent of the TCSPPCC doctoral internship is to provide a broadly-based training program to move interns towards entry-level post-graduate professional psychology practice. We offer training in a variety of areas related to the mental health profession and attempt to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to learning by giving interns an appropriate blend of support and challenge. We view interns as emerging professionals and treat them accordingly by providing a balance of autonomy and structure. At the same time, we try to provide the professional and emotional support necessary to allow for growth and development. We focus on interns’ strengths and challenges and attempt to facilitate interns’ growth throughout the course of the year. The TCSPP Counseling Centers doctoral Internship Program is exclusive to students from any Chicago School of Professional Psychology academic program who are internship-eligible. Students should have at least 1000 hours of supervised experience prior to beginning the internship and be in good academic standing.

Practicum Training Program Goals

​

The Chicago School Counseling Centers’ practicum training program seeks to provide a broadly based training program to facilitate the practicum student’s advancement toward their next level of training. The specific goals of our practicum training program are to develop students who:

• Have gained a body of clinical experience, supported by developmentally-sequenced experiential learning.

• Have an understanding of the importance of outreach and consultation and have increased knowledge about how to provide these services.

• Work in multidisciplinary environments, have the knowledge, skills, and awareness for multi-culturally competent work, and are learn to integrate multiple theoretical perspectives into their therapeutic interventions.

• Learn to integrate science into practice and value the contributions of practice to psychological science.

• Gain knowledge about how systems impact clinical work

• Have a clearer understanding of their professional identity.

The program takes advantage of multiple theoretical orientations and a diverse supervisory staff, and relies on a wide variety of clinical services to assure breadth.

Psychology and Marital and Family Therapy Training Program

​

The Chicago School of Professional Psychology Counseling Centers offer multiple opportunities for training in community mental health through our practicum program for students of psychology and marriage and family therapy, our doctoral internship in psychology, and our MFT Internship training program.

Our programs are characterized by a wide variety of clinical activities, supervision from a group of diverse and experienced psychologists and a wide array of seminars. The overarching goals of our programs are to provide high-quality training to our trainees and interns so that we may provide high-quality, affordable mental health services to our community members.
